About Kimberly
Hi there! It’s so lovely to meet you. My name is Kimberly, but most people call me Kim. I am a mental health advocate, activist, and a Certified Peer and Family Specialist. From as young as I can remember, I knew I wanted to help people. I worked in retail for the better part of my life and loved the connections that I built, but hated the pressure of selling to people. It was when I was diagnosed with my mental health conditions that I knew what I wanted to do. As someone with their own lived experience with mental health challenges and trauma, I have sought to connect with others, deepening my empathy and compassion for those who feel like they don’t fit in with society. I am deeply invested in engaging in the fight against stigma and shame, and believe healthcare and social support should be accessible to everyone, no matter where they come from. In addition to my work as a peer specialist, I am also a Certified QPR Suicide Prevention Instructor, a Certified Laughter Yoga Leader, and an Intentional Peer Support trainer. I am also very passionate about social causes and justice, human rights, and equity and inclusivity. My Recovery Story
I'm a survivor of childhood domestic violence, navigating toxic relationships, and some religious and political abuse. As a child, I struggled greatly between having undiagnosed ADHD and emotional neglect while learning to find my place in a chronically dysfunctional household. Today, 16 years after receiving my diagnoses, I continue to maintain my recovery through learned coping skills, having a strong support system, and embracing my own sense of self through compassion, love, and forgiveness.
My Motivation To Help
My motivation comes from a desire to support those who have gone through times of hopelessness, doubt, and alienation due to stigma around mental health conditions. I have a big heart for those who are survivors of abuse, oppression, and those who wrestle with self-acceptance and self-compassion. I live my life by a quote by Ayesha Siddiqi, "Be the person you needed when you were younger."

"She was amazing! Extremely helpful. She made me feel better about myself with all of her genuine compliments. :)"

"Kim is enthusiastic and helps group members feel comfortable by allowing herself to be vulnerable in leading the Laughter Yoga session. She doesn't pressure anyone to unmute or go on video if they aren't comfortable doing so. I've been to several of Kim's sessions now, and I feel a little more willing to share my laughter each time."
