Licensed Peer Supporter
"Meet everyone where they are at” is my motto and with that comes acceptance of everyone's journey, where there’s no room for judgement. I am here to encourage you and to help you build up an arsenal of tools to use to help cope with any of a number of challenges you may be facing. Mostly, I am here to LISTEN and if asked, to provide any feedback that you may want based on my own personal experiences.
My name is Taamer and I am an Organization Trained and a Licensed Peer Support Specialist. I started this journey a couple years ago by attending peer support groups through Project Return Peer Support Network (PRPSN) when I was struggling with grief and anger at becoming the “only” parent to my 13 year old daughter, who lost her mother to cancer. Struggling to find resources, I came across an organization Project Return Peer Support Network (PRPSN) and their support groups through which I found support from others with shared lived experience, which really resonated with me. I would eventually apply for and complete the (PRPSN) training and internship program to become an Organizational trained (and now a Licensed) Peer Support Specialist through the State of California. Over the past 15 years, I had experienced debilitating depression, anxiety and helplessness. I attended peer support groups many years back that helped me learn to cope with (and excel) when facing mental health challenges. I stopped attending them for several years only to find that when I was faced with trauma and new life challenges, I needed to continue working on improving myself and maintaining all that I had learned and all of the work I put in. I created 2 (free) groups that I currently facilitate/ host “Dealing with Anger” on Mondays at 9am PST and “Dealing with Relationship Challenges” on Wednesdays at 9am PST. They are both listed on the heypeers platform. I also provide individual peer support services. From the home page, under the meetings tab, type in the name of the group(s) above in the search bar and you will see the groups pop up, where you can click on “register” to attend. You can also search for my name under the "Find a Peer Supporter" tab from the home screen to view my information and available services.
My Recovery StoryI am in a really good place and my past experiences have taught me that when I am comfortable and things are good that if I neglect taking care of myself or if I feel like I don’t need to continually work on myself, that eventually leads to my decline. That is why I believe recovery for me will never end. I embrace the process and always continue to grow and focus on being a better version of myself everyday.
My Motivation To HelpI have struggled for many years dealing with numerous mental health challenges including depression, anxiety and ADHD. I’ve been through bitter divorce and lots of anger, chronic illness and pain, relationship issues, an extremely toxic parent and cancer has taken two of the closest people to me. This is just a small list of examples. I came to realize that nobody was going to come and fix these problems for me and that there is / was no magic pill that takes it all away. When I finally surrendered trying to control everything, my life changed. I want to help you take back your life!
