The 34 Gallery

International Mental Health Arts & Advocacy
The 34 Gallery is a UN SDG 3.4 Mental Health Arts Initiative created by our parent organization, SimukaAfrica.org. Our participating artists currently represent 35 countries. Our initiative aims to explore monthly mental health themes through art therapy, outreach and advocacy.

We offer free peer support groups to explore mental health and shared lived experience through creative expression, including fine, audiovisual & A.I. art, writing, and music. As we grow, dance and additional artforms will also be included.

Remember: Artists create Golden Ages. Join us in starting one! Let's remind humanity to embrace the light of who we are. Your artistic mental health advocacy with us can and will make a difference. Someone seeing your work through our Art Therapy Open Calls or hearing your participation in a group can inspire others to keep going with hope and resilience despite their mental health struggles.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do your Art Therapy Open Calls work?

Each month we feature Art Therapy Open Calls created by our team of 34 Gallery Medical Advisors to address neurodivergence, trauma & domestic violence, chronic/terminal illness, burnout, specific mental health conditions, financial distress and support for those residing in active conflict settings or rural regions. Our HeyPeers meetings are an extension of these support themes, providing artists and professionals working with us to establish a virtual safe space to explore creativity.

Submission Guidelines for participation can be found on our website: 34Gallery.org/Submissions. Selected artists also receive Certificates of Honor for participation and have the opportunity for solo features in our virtual publication, Interludes.

Why did SimukaAfrica.org create The 34 Gallery Initiative?

The 34 Gallery Initiative began as The SDG 3.4 Open Call for mental health awareness in early 2024 as a response to the rise in youth suicide in Zimbabwe. Within six weeks, our Initiative was expanded into a full virtual gallery to handle the influx of art submissions we receive from youth and adults in crisis all over the world. In our 2 years of operation, The 34 Gallery has worked with more than 400+ artists in 35 countries.

What is the mission of SimukaAfrica.org?
