Mike C.
Certified Peer Supporter · Silver Spring, MD
Salutations! I'm Mike, an AuDHDer who knows what it's like when getting out of bed feels like a boss fight. Think of me as a guide who's already gotten lost in this forest; I don't have a map, but I know some of the terrain.

About Mike
My brain's… a lot. If yours is too, you're in good company! At my core, I'm a punkish creative & introspective nerd type. Hence why I get along with misfits so well. But I've spent most of my life feeling out of step—too much, not enough, and under a dark cloud I couldn't name. In my 30s I discovered I'm autistic with a side helping of ADHD. That was on top of a long history of anxiety, anorexia, trauma, and depression telling me I'm garbage. Footnote: I'm not, and you're probably not either. Life's thrown me its share of UGH and I've spent a lot of time learning to stop hating my brain. Still kind of a love/hate relationship, actually. But progress is progress. On paper, I’m a Certified Peer Support Specialist with ongoing training and all that. In practice, I’m just someone who’s been through a lot of the same mental health mess and sits in it with you.
My Recovery Story
Maybe the best realization I've had over my long road is that healing isn't about 'fixing' yourself, it's about understanding yourself. After years of building my mental toolkit, I've reached a place of genuine stability and self-acceptance. I'm not 'cured' (spoiler: that's not how this works), but I've learned to thrive with my brain, not despite it.
My Motivation To Help
I needed support once, and no one was there. I never want anyone to feel as alone as I was. That's it. I want to shrink down the scariness we all face and remind people they're not as isolated in those feelings as they think. All the years I lost to depression and self-destruction—I can't get those back. But I can make them mean something by showing up for people going through their own version of it. I'm in your corner. Because, damn, somebody has to be.

What peers say about Mike

"Group leaders were good and I feel bad for them since the stupid decision to move to the new site is costing all of them their jobs and positions. They deserved better than that. Time to boycott Dbsa online and go to the local community ones"

"Mike is a professional meeting facilitator "

"Lori's skills as a certified peer supporter are very apparent in her breakout room meetings. She's relatable, and seems genuinely concerned about every person attending. While Lori doesn't mind being vulnerable herself as the facilitator, sharing some of her own experiences when appropriate, she never dominates the group; anybody who wants to share is provided with a safe and respectful place to do so."
