About this meeting
Sensory Sunday is a creative community space for anyone who wants to slow down, make time for something creative, reflect, and connect with peers. We’ll begin the session at 10:05 AM with a short guided meditation connected to this week’s theme before we create together. This week’s theme: Refresh & Reconnect to Your Senses ~ Create Your Sensory Safe Space Follow along with an optional Sensory Jar/Bottle Craft Workshop 🫙, or bring your own creative activity and create alongside the group. Each meeting blends a short grounding or mindfulness practice, shared reflection or discussion, and relaxed creative time. Bring whatever feels accessible that day—coloring, journaling, drawing, crafts, writing, fiber arts, or another low-pressure activity. Select sessions will include an interactive craft workshop. You do not need to consider yourself “creative” or “artistic” to participate. The focus is expression, sensory comfort, and being in community rather than making something “good” or identifying as an artist. Cameras are required during the brief check-in and optional afterward. Quiet participation is welcome, and sharing your work is always optional. Optional Sensory Jar/Bottle Workshop ~ If you choose to participate in the guided workshop, bring any materials you’d like to use to create your own Sensory Safe Space—a sensory tool designed to support relaxation, emotional regulation, and mindful moments. Create something portable for on the go using a closed container, or make an open-container version that stays at home. Use whatever brings you joy, comfort, or sensory satisfaction. The facilitator will demonstrate using an open container, sand, and other materials. You do not need to use the same supplies. Bring what you already have, or use inexpensive materials available from a local craft or dollar store. Possible materials include: Clear plastic or glass bottle, jar, or container—with or without a tight-sealing lid Warm water Food coloring Clear glue or glitter glue Vegetable oil or baby oil Funnel or measuring cup Colored rice, sand, salt, or small rocks Pom-poms, foam shapes, or felt scraps Glitter, sequins, marbles, buttons, river rocks, or beads Small toys, trinkets, or other sensory items Super glue or hot glue for sealing a lid, if needed This list is not exhaustive. Use what you have and make it your own. ~ Meeting Flow ~ Welcome & Introduction Group Expectations & Guidelines Guided Meditation ~ 5–10 minutes Check-In ~ 3 minutes, camera on for check-in Cameras are optional after check-in Guided Creative/Craft Workshop — select sessions Relaxed Creative Time ~ Create, Craft, & Chat If you arrive after check-in, please enter with your camera on and check-in through the chat (short greeting). My name is Candace. I’m a Peer Specialist-CMPSS based in California. I hold a BA in Psychology and have over 14 years of experience in community mental health and community building, always moving toward the same goal: creating spaces where people can show up as themselves — not a collection of symptoms, diagnoses, or as a performance, but as whole human beings. I’ve moved through anxiety, depression, PTSD, trauma, PMDD, having ADHD, being autistic, and a lifetime of sensory overload that comes with it. I believe recovery is about finding your way back to yourself — taking stock of what needs to be released and what you want to make room for — and building from there. I don’t believe it is a one stop destination or about making yourself more palatable. I’m a creative at heart — painting, dance, baking, and singing are how I reconnect with myself. They remind me that healing can also be expressive, joyful, and deeply human. My focus is supporting neurodivergent individuals and people living with chronic illnesses to connect, grow, and learn in a supportive community. The spaces I hold are sacred, and I am honored to hold them. They are grounded in authenticity, healing, humor, and genuine care — and this is why I protect them with intention. Confidentiality and informed consent are non-negotiable for me and the spaces I hold. My groups are not clinical training grounds. They are healing spaces, and the stories, experiences, and safety of participants deserve to be respected by everyone who attends. No Student, Clinical Observation, Self-Promotion of Personal Services Allowed.
Motivation for help
My motivation to support others come from a deep understanding of the challenges life can bring without a support system and access to adequate care, especially when navigating being a black and neurodivergent person with invisible disabilities. I want to help others embrace their authentic selves, reclaim their inner strength, and discover tools that supports living life at the fullest.
