Termination for Medical Reasons Support Group
Description
Many moms face the difficult choice to end a pregnancy due to a devastating maternal or fetal diagnosis. Our online Termination for Medical Reasons Support Group provides non-judgmental support to moms who experienced termination for medical reasons. This group is not for partners/dads. Led by PSI-trained facilitators, this group helps bereaved mothers find support as well as provides useful information and resources to help them navigate the pain of their loss. Losing a baby can be a lonely experience and this group helps provide an avenue for healing and hope. We are here to help. We do not allow group observation by students or professionals. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding. ***If you miss three meetings or more without canceling beforehand, we may remove you from groups that you are registered for. We often have a waitlist, so it is important to cancel so others can have a spot to receive support.***
We have moved to a new platform. You can find all the information here: https://www.postpartum.net/get-help/psi-online-support-meetings/
Postpartum Support International (PSI) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote awareness, prevention and treatment of pregnancy and postpartum mental health worldwide. PSI provides direct support to pregnant and postpartum people, post-loss individuals, and families, training to professionals and volunteers, and a bridge to connect with each other. Our universal motto is: You are not alone, you are not to blame, and with help you will get well.
What is the structure of the meeting?
Our groups are 90 minutes (1.5 hours) in length. The first ~30 minutes is providing information, education, and establishing group guidelines. The next ~60 minutes is “talk time,” in which group members share and talk with each other. You will not be allowed to enter group once talk time begins so we can keep it a confidential space. Our groups are based on a peer-to-peer support model, so this is not a therapy session. Group members must be present for the group guidelines before joining in the discussion or “talk time,” so that all group members understand the expectations of group.

By participating in these gatherings, you agree to adhere to our Community Agreements and to co-create a welcoming and supportive environment built on mutual respect for all participants, volunteers, and facilitators. PSI facilitators reserve the right to remove any individual who appears to be violating the community agreements.
Who is invited to the meeting? Anyone who is having symptoms of Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders as well as those experiencing fertility challenges, pregnancy or infant loss, and post-termination support. Check out each group listing for a full description. Our groups are not for those having a medical or mental health crisis. Please reach out to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline if you need emergency/crisis assistance at 988 (via text or phone call).
Will I have to talk about my experience? We do require that everyone provides a short introduction. After that, no one in the group is required to talk. Some group members prefer to listen. But remember, your experience and insight are valuable and could help someone else in the room. Do what’s best for you.
