About Marilyn Bowling

Biography

I am a combat Veteran who has lived with PTSD, depression and suicidal ideations for over 30 years. I have been in recovery for 8 years and helping other Veterans along the way achieve recovery as well. I have a hobby farm that brings me joy on a daily basis and keeps me socializing with others. I've lived the struggle, the pain and the loss and come out on the other side a better person for it. Now I want to share what I've learned along the way so that others can experience recovery as well.

Specialties

My Recovery Story

I was self-isolating with a bottle of Crown Royal, cutting off family and friends. The nightmares caused sleepless nights on end and I blamed myself for the loss of my best friend in combat. I have learned how to utilize coping skills when faced with an environment or situation that could trigger me. I maintain my regular MH appointments and practice a lot of self care. I now have friends that I socialize with daily and understand that I can't control everything. I've learned to let go of the guilt and live in the moment. I set obtainable goals and celebrate each one. Helping others who struggle with their lived experiences gives me purpose and joy.

My Motivation To Help

When I returned from combat, I was dismissed because I was female. I struggled with dealing with my demons on my own, the wrong way. Then I met my current provider and she showed me that recovery was possible. I know the struggles many combat veterans endure and I want to help them reach the other side of recovery.
