Rene Joy Brown
Certified Peer Supporter
I love digging into the details -- so if you're feeling stuck and there's a lot of complexity or context to work through, I'm always ready to get into the nitty gritty. If you need a solution, big or small, I love to help with strategy! And, if you just need someone who knows what's it like to listen to what you're dealing with right now, I'm always ready to hold space for you to feel safe and heard. I'm also really familiar with the weird and wonky problems of 'life on welfare' in the US.
Florida-born-and-raised mom of teens and too many cats. I've developed my peer support work over the past 5 years, which arose from advocacy and consultancy for disability and anti-poverty issues. My recovery is a multi-faceted, fluid process that I love sharing with others 1-on-1 and in group settings. I believe strongly in the self-determined recovery model and that new paths to a recovery-oriented life wait to be discovered every day -- and that we uncover them better together!
My Recovery StoryFeeling secure and purposed in my sense of self helps me withstand distress, transitions, change and adverse experiences with resiliency, clarity, and most importantly -- hope.
My Motivation To HelpMy recovery is only as successful as it is due to the unconditional support of those who listened when I advocated for what I needed to be the best version I see for myself.
Got lyrics? Drop them here! Songs inspire my recovery every day in so many different ways. What's on your playlist that gets you through the day? What's the verse you scream-sing in the car on the way to or back from therapy? What's a song that saves the day every time it plays? User-be-warned, I may spelunk this chat for my own playlist-making purposes! <3
