HOPE of Saint Louis County Minnesota-Healing, Outreach and Perinatal Encouragement
At its heart, HOPE is a professional support group for maternal mental wellbeing. It’s moms supporting moms. Together, we can overcome the challenges of motherhood.
Motherhood Challenges
After a baby, you’ll feel a rollercoaster of emotions. Love. Joy. Stress. But sometimes this last emotion takes hold too strongly and for too long. If you’re feeling tired, sad, or worried to a point where it’s difficult to care for yourself or your baby, it could be depression or anxiety.
Depression & Anxiety Symptoms
They can start even before birth. Keep an eye out for these symptoms:
-
Sadness or feeling empty
-
Worry or anxiety
-
Tiredness or loss of energy
-
Losing interest in favorite pastimes
-
Sleeping way more or way less
-
Change in eating habits
-
Hopelessness, helplessness, or guilt
-
Mood swings
-
Difficulty concentrating
-
Thinking you’re a horrible parent or that your baby would do better without you
Postpartum depression and anxiety happens to about 20% of mothers and 10% of fathers.
Although it happens to many, you should still seek help. You can feel better with support and treatment.
Treating Postpartum Depression & Anxiety
-
Therapy (Individual or group)
-
Medication (prescribed by your medical provider)
-
Support from loved ones
Remember, you’re not alone, these feelings are not your fault, and with help you can be well again.
There’s HOPE
If you’re a mom feeling disconnected and disheartened by motherhood or struggling mentally, we’re here. You don’t need an official postpartum anxiety and depression diagnosis to join.
HOPE is here to help you navigate these emotions, hear others stories, tell your own, and heal alongside other moms. Join us and lift off the weight. Together, we’ll renew your mental health and support each other through this hard time.
Our meetings are led by Public Health Nurses with in-depth knowledge of motherhood and vast experience in mental health.
